W.E. Upjohn Institute for Employment Research gets $3 million federal grant for workforce programs

The W.E. Upjohn Institute for Employment Research was awarded a $3,000,000 Workforce Innovation Fund grant from the U.S. Department of Labor. The Institute is the administrative agency for the Michigan Works! area which includes Branch, Calhoun, Kalamazoo and St. Joseph Counties. 

The funding, which was awarded on September 24, will be used to expand the Southwest Michigan Employer Resource Network (SWMERN) and to increase services provided by Michigan Works!

DENSO Manufacturing and EDGE Program honored

DENSO Manufacturing Michigan, Inc. and a local workforce training program received statewide honors at the Michigan Works! Association's first-ever Prosperity Awards.

The company was recognized for its work with the Essential Skills Demanded by Great Employers (EDGE) Program. EDGE, funded by the W. K. Kellogg Foundation, is a collaborative project of Battle Creek Unlimited, Goodwill Industries of Central Michigan's Heartland, Kellogg Community College, Calhoun Intermediate School District and Michigan Works!

American Axle Manufacturing honored at statewide Prosperity Awards

Kalamazoo area hiring and employment successes were among those celebrated recently by the Michigan Works! Association at the recent First Annual Prosperity Awards.

American Axle and Manufacturing Holdings in Three Rivers was recognized for their announcement last year of a new, $100 million investment in their Three Rivers facility and the promise of 500 new jobs for the region.
